Lucky 13? Three more candidates To Seek Olympia City Council Seats

Wendy D. Carlson recently filed to run as the second challenger for incumbent Lisa Parshley, forcing a primary election. Community activist Talauna Reed also is in that race. Carlson is a former community corrections officer for the Department of Corrections, a PTA and football booster volunteer, and sports coach. Her campaign website lists her top issues as homelessness; public safety/civil safety and affordable housing.

Tyrone Brown is running for Position 7 against incumbent Jim Cooper. He has no apparent online presence as of publication, though you can email him at tyrone4council@gmail.com.

Entering the race for the council seat left open by Renata Rollins decision not to run for re-election is Corey Gauny, who applied for but was not appointed to the council seat vacated earlier this year by now state Rep. Jessica Bateman. To date, he does not have an online campaign presence.

Also in the race for Rollins position are Dontae Payne and Sarah DeStasio.

Melissa Denton, so far, is the only candidate campaigning for the Olympia Port Commission seat being vacated by E.J. Zita, who is not running for re-election. Denton, who practices family law, came in third in the 2018 primary race for Thurston County Commissioner. According to her campaign website, she has been a Pro Tem Court Commissioner in Family Court and has volunteered for many local organizations. She lists her top issues as protecting the environment, economic development that benefits the people of Thurston County, diversity and respect, and guarding the public’s interest by ensuring port operations are transparent and inclusive.
